Dedicated to dog rehoming for all ex-racing greyhounds

Although our team is committed to dog rehoming, finding a new family isn't always easy for the ex-racing greyhounds here at the Croftview kennels in Kent. While they may be very loving and well behaved, sometimes our special guests need a little more attention and care than the others. Every month on this page we will feature a dog that urgently needs to find its forever home.

JASPER

Jasper is just a baby and is a shy and silly youngster at 22 months old. A typical pup he is rather boisterous around the kennel and is unaware of his own height and length. He bounces around when coming out of the kennel and thinks it’s a fabulous game of try and trip the kennel hand.

As well as being young Jasper is also our newest Spook* currently he finds people he doesn’t know very scary. He normally refuses to come out of his kennel if he hears a voice he doesn’t recognise. Being young, Jasper can be coaxed out of his kennel once unfamiliar visitors have left, however he is starting to get braver depending on who is in the kennel. If you ever arrive at the kennel and hear the staff doing silly voices calling ‘Jazzy’, that’s just us coaxing him out of bed when he is feeling unsure.

Jasper is not yet happy to spend time outside. He’s happy to go out for a toilet and food but once his business is finished, he wants to get back to the safety of his kennel.

Jasper would benefit from living with an older, confident and tolerant female greyhound to show him the ropes and help his self-confidence blossom. We will also consider a companion closer to his age if they are a confident and well-rounded female greyhound who is happy to live with a male who acts like a puppy when he’s not worried. He will need an adopter who understands spooks or who is an experienced dog owner that will give Jasper the time he needs to be comfortable in a new environment.

Due to his personality and his need for further time to settle in, he is not currently available for walking. He is going out with staff in our large field so that he can get a chance to stretch his legs and have a bit of a sniffari.

*Spook refers to idiopathic fear and withdrawal syndrome. It is a genetic/hereditary issue, it is not due to any bad experiences prior to coming into homing kennels. A Spook is basically a dog that is terrified of anything and anyone that they aren’t familiar with, and it can take a long time to gain a Spooks trust and to build a relationship. Building a relationship with them does happen but you are looking at a year or more to build that relationship and not a few weeks.

**Due to Jasper’s nervousness any potential adopter may be subject to a physical home visit as well as our virtual home visit and other pre-adoption checks.
