DOGS OF THE MONTH

dizzy
Dizzy
Dizzy has spent a few days in a home environment. Unfortunately he found the experience very overwhelming. Dizzy would be best suited to a home with a retired couple who don't have the added pressure of working from home or working away from home. We will consider homes where someone is around most of the time and can arrange for a person to be at home with him when they can't. He will eventually be able to be left for short periods but the initial settling in period will be longer than expected. He will take time to settle into a home environment and is going to need a lot of patience and understanding to get him through those initial first few weeks. He has an anxious temperament which means any sort of change is difficult for him but he can overcome it with time and patience. Once back in the familiar kennel environment he calmed immediately and after a snooze settled straight back into the kennel routine. He may find it easier in a home to be initially restricted to one room with a strict but calm daily routine. For some dogs too much access to space is overwhelming. When he arrived at the kennels in June 2023 after an initial stressy first couple of weeks he settled down. We believe that Dizzy would benefit from being in a home environment but it is going to take a special someone to help him get through those first few weeks. He doesn't care about having another dog around, what he needs is his person/s who can ease him into homelife.
We realise that this may be a tall order to fill to find him a home. However, once settled in a home we feel he will be happier than in kennels.
If you can offer a home to Dizzy please email us at harvel@greyhoundtrust.org.uk or phone the kennels on 01474 815273
OUR KENNELHAND'S CHOICE OF THE MONTH

Rory
RORY is still looking for his forever home.
Rory is a characterful boy who has been in a home previously for a year. Unfortunately, due to owner ill health he had to return and has now been with us for just over a year.
Rory is at that sticky age now – 6yrs – where he’s not young but not old either. He is an actively lazy boy who deserves a second chance at a home. When I say actively lazy, I mean that he needs a bit of motivation to get out of bed. He likes his home comforts but if there is a chance of him getting out on a walk or for a run in our enclosed fields, he is the first up and out the door. He isn’t particularly food motivated but knows when mealtimes should be.
He is an intelligent boy and knows his own mind which leads to some interesting quirks in his personality. He likes the routine that a kennel environment can provide but does get upset if things change. Mostly this is when new dogs come in to find their homes. The unfamiliar dogs in the kennel annoy him but given a day or two to have a moody teenage tantrum, he soon settles back down to normal. In a home environment he would need to be an only pet as he’s not a fan of sharing his space with other animals. A daily routine will also be important, he likes knowing what to expect, even if he must think about whether it’s worth his time getting out of bed! He has the staff here well trained as most days tummy tickles and play are demanded before he arises.
Rory walks well on the lead and is a favourite with our dog walkers. He has recently had an adventure at Trosley park with one of our regular dog walkers and has also behaved well when he has participated in the Riverside Walk at Riverside Country Park. He walks well in a group of greyhounds, but he just simply doesn’t have the desire to live with another dog.
With a consistent routine, regular walks, and playtime he is going to make a fantastic pet
