How do you sum up Tyson in a few words? The biggest lovebug with so much affection to give!
Tyson may be nearly 8 years old but he’s sporting some good genes - no one believes us when we tell them! This boy just wants to be close to everyone. He will plant you with all the kisses and paws for more. Tyson is a super friendly, bouncy boy who really believes he’s small enough to be a lap dog! Our beautiful boy has two parts to his personality - playful and lazy. We always let Tyson sleep in when cleaning the kennels in the mornings, getting him out for a toilet break on the second round of dogs. He would love nothing more than a comfortable dog bed (or sofa!) with lots of blankets to rearrange - as we can’t do the job right! Once Tyson is out of bed and fed, that’s when you see the happy playful side of him come out. He thoroughly enjoys his walks, and he is the perfect gentleman on the lead. He may need some guidance on how to stay still whilst being led up for his daily wanders though! The staff at Harvel really don’t have a bad word to say about Tyson.
He has previously been in a home for a short six weeks; he was clean inside and his previous owners called him a joy to own. Unfortunately, Tyson was only returned due to an incident regarding an off lead small breed dog running in between Tyson’s legs causing him some upset. His previous owners came to the difficult decision that he would be too strong if a scenario like this happened again. Since returning to Harvel Tyson has been out on park walks to see if the incident on lead caused any setbacks for him. Thankfully his run in with a rude small breed hasn’t changed his personality. If the other dogs are polite, Tyson is happy to greet dogs of all sizes. One of our dog walkers was able to get some pictures of him nose to nose with some chihuahuas at the local country park.
We cannot understand how Tyson is still in the kennel, not only is he a firm favourite with the dog walkers but many people wish they had the right circumstances to adopt him themselves. At almost 8 years old Tyson just wants to be in a home where he can spend his day napping in comfort and enjoying garden zoomies and interesting walks.
Tyson would suit well in a home with either a calm greyhound female or as a solo pet. Whilst he is a serial snoozer, he does need somebody at home with him most of the day.
Tyson could live with dog savvy children who understand the rules around toys and who don’t mind his sometimes-boisterous nature.
October 2025
Tyson has been in a home for around 6 weeks living with a greyhound girl. He did fantastically well when at home if you don't mind a 35kg lapdog. Unfortunately when out on the lead he was well behaved when seeing medium to large breed but became strong when seeing smaller breeds. After an incident with an off lead small dog running between his legs, his adopters felt that going forward, he was going to be too strong for them to handle around smaller breeds. Tyson has now been back at kennels for a couple of weeks. He would much rather be at home as he is struggling with the cold compared to a warmer home environment.

Tyson is coming up to seven and a half. However, don't be fooled by this boys age. He still has plenty of pep in his step! Tyson is very friendly and affection. As an older boy he uses his energy wisely. When he has the attention of the kennel staff he is bouncy, energetic, up for a cuddle and a play. When returned to his kennel he is chilled out and watching the comings and goings of the other dogs.
Tyson would best suit a home where someone is around more. He's used to kennel life and so is used to having people to hand for a large portion of the day and evening. He has recently had an excursion to the Riverside Country Park in Rainham and behaved very well, enjoying his time away from the kennels and getting to meet lots of people. He walked well on the lead and saw a few other breeds of dog.
Tyson would not be suitable to live with children. Not because he doesn't like them but because he can be quite boisterous and has a bit of a toy obsession.
He cannot live with cats.
Tyson will need full socialisation with other breeds of dog.
