Jake has now been with us here at GT Harvel for 929 days and counting. That is 2.5 years that he has been waiting for his forever home.
Jake is a playful boy who loves a rope toy to toss around and deconstruct. He likes having a selection of toys to choose from and we have recently introduced him to one of our new girls. He gets on well with her and they also play together. Other than Jake liking to steal all the bed -he likes to be comfy! – they get on well and he shares his space so he could live with a greyhound girl easily.
He can be a little stubborn on walks around the local area however in February he was taken on the Riverside Country Park Walk and was an absolute star. He settled well in the car travelling and then happily lapped up all the attention from the other dog walkers while walking beautifully on the lead and taking in all the new sights, sounds and smells. In May Jake also went on an outing to our local Country Park and again travelled, walked and behaved well whilst out. Jake just seems to prefer his walks either with another greyhound for company or away from the local area where he has smelt and seen all he needs to know.
There are a couple of things that we think are holding him back from finding his forever home they are:
- He’s Black and Male
- He has a stocky build and likes to hug
- He will be 6 years old in October
- He has a previous race injury that restricts him to on lead exercise – other than in your own garden.
- He doesn’t like small humans so will need to be homed in an adult household with no visiting young children. He’s fine with older/taller children.
Jake is a great dog and although it sounds like he may have a few restrictions they are rarely a hindrance. His race injury doesn’t bother him unless he has overdone exercise and even then, it bothers him for a day or two and then is fine. If he is on a walk and sees children, he is fine and at the Riverside Walk there are usually little humans around. He just doesn’t want to have them in his home.
In the kennel other than when he is playing, he is calm, relaxed and quiet. Jake is a very happy and friendly boy and when we have visitors to the kennels, he likes to be the first one to greet them, this is usually the only time that he is vocal, and it is all to get attention. He is friendly with every adult he meets.
Jake is a great boy who whilst happy is wasting his life in kennels instead of being in a home. We all love him here and don’t understand why he is still waiting. We’re hoping there is someone out there that can give this lovely boy a chance.

Jake is a super dog who has now been with us a year. It's been a busy year for him. He retired due to a broken wrist and that has taken some time to heal as Jake is quite a bouncy dog. He's now got the all clear but due to the location of the injury he's a dog that you won't be able to let off lead. We've learnt that Jake is not a fan of small humans so he will need to be homed in an adult household with no visiting children. With the very cold months that we have had we have learnt that Jake does not like the cold. He has the staff well trained and as the afternoon gets colder, he needs to be encouraged up with a treat. He's certainly not a daft dog!
Jake loves a rope toy to toss around and deconstruct and will be a very playful dog. However, you will need to limit that playfulness to make sure that he doesn’t over do things. He is very good at knowing when he’s had enough and needs a rest.
Lately Jake has been a little stubborn about walks but if taken out with another greyhound he is happy to go. Jake would probably enjoy being at home with a calm greyhound girl for company.
Jake cannot live with small animals.

Jake has gone from an unruly pest to well … a bit more polite and relaxed pest :) He has calmed down a lot whilst in his kennel and is happier to lounge on the bed rather than wanting to be in the thick of things.
Food time is still a favourite time of the day as it means he gets to run around the paddock like a looney before stuffing his face. Although he is actually a polite eater and takes his time with his food in between having a wander between mouthfuls.
Jake is very affectionate and loves standing to have a cuddle before diving onto his bed to have a dig around and make his bed to his preference before settling down for a nap.
One of the most affectionate boys you will come across, if he's not leaning against you then he is giving you a hug. A really handsome boy who simply adores everyone he meets. He can live with a Greyhound girl or by himself. He can not live with children. A nice lad who would suit most homes
